If a man's "letting go", is but a state of mind, then his soberity will become his ongoing effort. But and if, his "letting go", is his ongoing effort, then his soberity will become a state of mind...

Anonymous--you may not have realized that this "wall" is a place to talk about not drinking alcohol one day at a time. I'm sure you can find a place to post your religious messages where they will be more welcome. We appreciate your stopping by, but it's important to us that we stick with the topic--which is Alcholics Anonymous.

For God gives to a man that is good in his sight, wisdom, and knowledge, and joy. But to the sinner He gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. When you have reached this point, and the obedience thereof; There is nothing better for a man that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God...

I am new to this and scared. I am an alcoholic. I am scared about never again drinking and I am scared about never stopping. Life is so bright when I am sober, but I never go to long enjoying the clearness of my days. I get so depressed after a drinking night. I can't stand it anymore. I wish I could keep the drinks to a minimum. I feel I have lost all will power. It just seems to be getting worse with each year.

Today is my biological birthday. My girlfriend asked me what I wanted, and for the first time in my life I really didn't know what to say. I've got everything I need. Thank God for the people and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous, for New Life Lodge, and for my first birthday clean and sober in 5 years. I love you all!!!! God bless.

Dear Anonymous,
I would suggest attending an "Open Discussion" meeting at any AA group if you would like to discover the meaning of recovery. AA has helped millions to recover from a "seemingly hopeless state of mind and body." All you'll have to do is listen (with an open mind, of course) to discover how AA has indeed made these millions of lives managable.
Best Wishes

I'd like to bring up the topic of: recovery. For I'm not sure this means what I think it means. It seems like more of a cover up than the truth. Most peoples lives in soberity haven't gotten more manageable, why is this so.

AA meetings have put such a high regard against discrimination in refrence to God's word, that they have reduced themselves to the activities of a cult! AA was founded around the Oxford group, nevertheless, the Lord is of such a mind as to remove the Lord's prayer from meetings altogether. (Let that thought sink in awhile;) he's not one to coax, and I for one will, at least on the internet, not allow such cowards to userupt what was once an honest program for staying sober in the prusuit of God.

I would just like to remind people of the traditions and that "We have no opinion on outside matters" and religion is an outside matter. For Anonymous , this is a website about sobriety not religous beleifs and debates. The reason for that tradition is so that we don't lose focus of our primary purpose, which is to carry the message to the next alcoholic. A.A. is not a forum for displaying our beleifs, be it religion or otherwise. Remember, it's "attraction, not promotion."
Too for any newcomers who may read this, there are no rules for A.A. to fit in, you dont have to have a God at all, the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. No matter what you believe in if anything. And one more thing, that has helped me stay sober is, when I came in, when I would get pissy about doing things for sobriety and whining, they would say "if you did it for alcohol and drugs, you can do it for sobriety", there wasn't much I wouldn't do for my addiction, I'd of walked a hundred miles in my barefeet if I had to, so I better not whine about taking an hour out of my day for a meeting to stay sober and have a good life and stay out of the gutters. Im 24 and coming up on 5 years sober and I didn't think I'd make it, but I a have through H.P. and the steps, traditions, service and bottom line , not drinking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. IT WILL PASS!!!!!
If anyone new or old would like to corresponde feel free, also even though were on the Internet, anonymity is still important, thank you and keep on the road of happy destiny.

The concept everyone is missing in AA is that through Bill's story, we come to know him. Albiet, God has a story too! It's through God's story, we come to know him. Many of us have had little progress in the knowledge of God, but how remiss we are, not to have read his story. The bible is there for the taking, but who will see through this darkness enough to discover it? Ah yes, I ask you AA members, who has read God's story? Fall therefore, with thy face to the ground, and let us repent ourselves of this oversight.

Ever hear of the fella who traded in his punishing bottle of gin for a loving one? Took it back, he did, but they would have none of it, saying he must be crazed. How much more then, those who attempt this same thing with God? For like gin, God too can be either punishing or loving, depending upon how you abuse. Ah, but he that keeps the fear of God will not soon be moved. Nay, tis not good to loose the fear of God, for he that keeps it, keeps aright his conduct also. If our conscience convicts us, then let us make the amendment necessary.

I'm a very grateful recovering alcoholic, I chose to call my Higher Power, God. That's my choice, I believe that whom ever you are that you are entitled to call your Higher Power whatever you like. Isn't it a Miracle that we lived to have a choice. Judge not, that's not our jobs. Love and Tolerance is our Code... As for God, old-time members sometime comment that "AA has only two things to say about the subject: First, there is one. And second, your not it! From there your on your own! Don't Drink and Go to Meetings!
Be Happy with where you are at a t this Very Moment.

Once upon a time, there was a herd of buffalo, they got together after the stampead and said: "come, let us have a meeting. For all our kin folk fell off the cliff and are no more." Now what do you suppose they discussed? Was it the gun that went off and startled the herd? Or, how stupid it is to follow the crowd? Or, that they could not see where they were going for all the buffalo? Or, that they were powerless over falling?
If you,ve chosen the last one, your a member of AA.

Good to know there are many, many others out there who are living the Program. I am grateful to be able to find meetings when I travel. I need them wherever I go.

It concerns me to see the comments on the wall regarding religion and Jesus. While many of us are Christian, are we prepared to turn away even one suffering alcoholic from AA because that person perceives AA to be a Christian organization..and that person is either Athiest (or thinks so), Agnostic (like I was), Jewish, or any other religious or non-religious persuasion? Since our COMMON welfare must come first for AA to survive, I have been encouraged to put my personal preferences, religion, etc. aside during an AA meeting. I wonder if the person writing on the wall (about Jesus) is even an alcoholic. Do they even know what AA is about? I do not believe I can change this person or keep them from posting, but I can pray that no suffering alcoholic will be turned away from our doors because of it. After all, the ONLY requirement to belong to AA is a desire to stop drinking. For that I am grateful.

I have an anouncement to make... That good orderly direction I was seeking, I found that God reserved. Twas to his son he saith to be "the way, the truth, and the life. I had to resign to the fact, that it was not in me, that all roads were dead ends but this one. I could search high or low, serve or rule, I could go ahead or back up, but alas it twas all in vain till I found he that saith "Follow thou me."

What think ye? Is the big book a bible tract or no? Many would consider it so. One would wonder then why this fact is so obscure. Could it be because this truth is unpopular with the world. Is it not written, that he that becomes a friend of the world is an enemy of God. It follows then, that he that becomes a friend of God is an enemy of the world. Here the plot thickens and anonymity begins to form.
Why is it so hard to speak of Jesus in an AA meeting? Because many hide behind a false revrence for discrimination. They put such a high regard for it that the offence of the cross may cease. For in such spiritual things, the prince of this world is ready to snuff out anyone who renounces a loyality to the world, and it's more than false piety toward discrimination that's at the root of it. Consider if you will, how many are there really of a different faith? If you asked a raise of hands, how many
would you be in danger of offending who worship some other than the God of the bible? Nay, there is none, let him stand and show himself who professes another. If not, then how do you explain that hush hush that prevails? Take away this false reason of aborance for discrimination and you'll feel the devils domain.
How quickly do these opposers point to singalness of purpose and sticking to the subject of boring step one
when we all hunger for spiritual milk and are seldom fed. What makes for a bad meeting more than this suppression?

Can anyone doubt that a sober life without God is but one more restriction in thee. That as these added together amount to an unmanagable life our forefathers in AA. would not accept? Restrictictions mount up and that thought for freedom has rather made life worse.
Ah, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God; but many stumble by resting content with their current understanding of God. This understanding will not improve by the first 164 pages of the big book, and who can not see where it tells you to turn? You think perhaps to climb up someother way?
